The Diversity Media Awards, the Oscars of inclusion, are back

The Oscars of inclusion are back. The winners of the 2023 edition of the Diversity Media Awardswhich reward personalities and content that have distinguished themselves for a valued representation of people on issues of gender and gender identity, sexual and emotional orientation, age and generations, ethnicity, disability, physical appearance, will be rewarded on 21 June during an evening at the Teatro Lirico in Milan conducted by Matilda De Angelis and Alberto Boubakar Malanchino and then broadcast on Rai1, Saturday 1 July in the late evening.

This year the stylist Alessandro Michele, the rapper Marracash, the great Ornella Vanoni, the volleyball player Paola Egonu, the couple formed by Paola Turci and Francesca Pascale, Samantha Cristoforetti, the artist Chiara Bersani are candidates for character of the year.

The nominations for the Diversity Media Awards are the result of the annual Diversity Media Report 2023 research, relating to the period January – December 2022, carried out by the Diversity Foundation, chaired by Francesca Vecchioni, in collaboration with the Observatory of Pavia and with a Scientific Committee from numerous Italian universities.

Compared to last year, it emerged that the incidence of news concerning at least one diversity is 23.9% on the overall agenda with a very slight increase compared to 2021, equal to 0.9%. but with important differences between areas. If Ethnic groups, Age and generations, gender are the areas covered most in the news (with an incidence of 12.3%, 10.4%, 8.2% of the total news), the disability area stops at 1, 3%, while LGBT+ or appearance-related topics have close to zero coverage (0.3%, 0.2%). «A correct representation of diversity, with the right words, makes everyone feel included», says Francesca Vecchioni.
