The electrical app subsidy program is coming in June

Of Thanks to Floudopoulos

The overall energy saving plan to be presented by the government in the coming days is reportedly expected to include a subsidy program for the replacement of energy-intensive electrical appliances.

As the Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis stated yesterday during the meeting he had with the President of the Republic K. Sakellaropoulou, there is still an important way to go in the direction of energy saving as with small changes in our behavior we can save energy, save money and we facilitate the country’s effort to reduce its overall energy footprint.

In this context, Mr. Mitsotakis stressed that very soon the government will present a concrete coherent plan.

According to information in the framework of this plan, a series of actions to reduce energy consumption in the public sector and in general to household consumers and businesses is expected to be announced.

More specifically, the regulation of air conditioners will be requested at 26 degrees Celsius in summer and 19 degrees in winter.

Device replacement

The same plan, which is expected to be presented in June, envisages the subsidy program for the replacement of air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers with corresponding new high-energy appliances.

The program, according to information, will have a total amount of 150 million euros and is expected to participate in it about 350 thousand beneficiaries.

A basic condition for taking action is the recycling of old devices. The program includes the replacement and recycling of air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers, as these devices generate the largest loads of electricity.

The main points of the program are:

Beneficiary households will be able to replace up to three electrical appliances.

• 350,000 households will benefit from the program.

• Subsidy rates will range from 35% to 50% per household, depending on annual income. Social and income criteria will apply to the evaluation of applications, with the annual income being the most important of them. Priority will be given to vulnerable social groups, such as the disabled, single-parent families and those with many children.

• It is estimated that more than 380,000 energy-intensive devices will be replaced and recycled.

• The average energy savings that each household will have is estimated at 1,000 KWh per year. This means that a household with medium consumption, up to 5,000 KWh per year, is expected to achieve up to 25% energy savings. In cases of greater use, the percentage can even exceed 40%.

The process of submitting applications will be done through a special digital platform. Finally, it is worth mentioning that the climate law, which was passed in the parliament, provides for the issuance of a ministerial decision for the announcement of the program.

The ministerial decision, according to the relevant regulation, will determine the budget of the relevant action, the type of devices to which it refers, the percentage of their financing, the beneficiaries of the action, the duration and the procedures of its implementation, the required supporting documents and the body payment of funding for their replacement, the obligations of the beneficiaries and the consequences of non-compliance with the terms and conditions of the action and any other relevant details for its implementation.
