The operator MTS announced the start of testing the 5G network in Moscow. As the press service notes, this is the first pilot user network of the fifth generation in Russia.

The large-scale 5G network operates in the 4.9 GHz band in fourteen popular locations in Moscow. MTS subscribers using smartphones compatible with 5G (N79 range, 4.4-5.0 GHz) can connect to unlimited Internet at speeds up to 1.5 Gbps.

The 5G pilot network is available to users in the following locations:

  • Nikolsky passage, Vetoshny lane
  • Lubyanskaya square, st. Bolshaya Lubyanka, Central children’s store
  • st. Nikolskaya, hotel “St. Regis Moscow Nikolskaya “
  • St. Bolshaya Dmitrovka, Teatralny proezd, st. Kuznetsky Most, Central Department Store, Petrovsky Passage
  • Moskvoretskaya embankment, Bolshoi Moskvoretsky bridge, Zaryadye Park, Raushskaya embankment
  • Novopushkinsky Square, Tverskoy Boulevard, Moscow Art Theater
  • TsPKiO them. M. Gorky, park of arts “Muzeon”, Crimean bridge, Frunzenskaya and Prechistenskaya embankments
  • Presnenskaya and Krasnopresnenskaya embankments near MIBC “Moscow City”, T. Shevchenko embankment and Kutuzovsky prospect near the “Bagration” bridge
  • University square near the building of Moscow State University
  • Observation deck on Sparrow Hills, Trinity Church, Skypark attractions
  • Khodynsky Boulevard, Khodynskoe Pole park
  • Entertainment center “Dream Island”
  • Main alley and skating rink of VDNKh;
  • Skolkovo innovation center near st. Malevich

5G zones can be viewed on the map. The operator plans to increase the number of 5G zones and coverage over time. It is noted that independent connection to pilot zones is not yet available for a wide range of MTS subscribers. The selection of the participants in the pilot project will be carried out automatically on the basis of an impersonal analysis of data on their movement, proximity to the pilot zones, the profile of service consumption and Internet traffic.

Such subscribers will receive an SMS inviting them to connect to the pilot network with the “Access to 5G” option. Data transmission in the pilot network is not charged, is not limited in volume and speed, including when using a smartphone as a Wi-Fi access point and working in file-sharing networks.
