The first electric Cadillac: the company showed a production model for $ 60,000

Two days ago, on April 19, at the Shanghai Auto Show, Cadillac unveiled a concept for its first electric car, the Lyriq. The car turned out to be quite futuristic, but some of its elements clearly indicated that the production model would differ from the concept in many respects. But today, representatives of the company presented the serial Cadillac Lyriq, which differs from the previously presented concept in only a few details like classic side mirrors instead of cameras, while the body, interior design, platform and power plant remained the same. Moreover, the manufacturer even stated that the new product will sell for $ 59,990, and production is scheduled to start in 2022 with a release in 2023.

It is important to note that this electric car is based on the GM Ultium platform – which is also used by the electric pickup and SUV of the Hummer EV series. Thanks to this base, the first Cadillac Lyriq will receive rear-wheel drive and a range of 500 kilometers, but in the future, the manufacturer will implement front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Moreover, the company notes that the best option is a cruising range of 700 kilometers, but when such a version will appear is not specified. The manufacturer also spoke about the fast charging function – in 10 minutes “from the socket” the car gets a power reserve of 120 kilometers, in 30 minutes – 300 kilometers.

Outwardly, the car looks quite futuristic – instead of the usual radiator grill, a stylish trim is used, the headlights and taillights are made in an elongated shape, 20-inch alloy wheels complement the image (you can even take 22-inch wheels in a more expensive configuration). Inside the car, the user will be pleased with a 33-inch curved display that covers both the dashboard and the multimedia complex. The manufacturer even announced a powerful 19-speaker AKG Studio audio system and active noise canceling technology for the cabin.
