The first quantum processor available for free sale. QuantWare releases five-qubit Soprano

Dutch startup QuantWare has decided to change the rules of the game in the quantum computing market and announced its intention to release its Soprano processor for free sale.

Our Soprano QPU is what the Intel 4004 was to the semiconductor business

Matthijs Rijlaarsdam, co-founder of QuantWare

So Soprano is the world’s first commercially available quantum processor. Of course, the solution is not targeted at an ordinary buyer, but nevertheless, ordinary institutions, laboratories, educational institutions and so on can buy it.

Soprano is a quantum processor with five Transmon qubits with an accuracy of 99.9% per qubit. The processors will be available to customers both in a completely finished form, and with the ability to customize target parameters depending on the customer’s requirements.

QuantWare also announced that it intends to double or even quadruple the number of qubits in its processors every year. Rilaarsdam expects an inflection point to be passed in 2025, beyond which quantum computers will become much more ubiquitous and useful.

Unfortunately, the price of the Soprano has not been announced.
