Francesco Schiavone, one of the strongest “godfathers” of the Naples mafia, the Camorra, has decided to repent, as the southern Italian newspaper “Cronache di Caserta” writes. Schiavone, who is now 70 years old, has been in solitary confinement in prison since 1998 and is suffering from cancer. Two of his children have also decided to cooperate with justice and, according to many analysts, his repudiation of his mafia past could send an important message to the whole of organized crime in Lower Italy. This “godfather”, leader of the “Kazalezi” faction, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for a series of murders. That he “repented”, according to the press and as reported by the Athens News Agency, is also confirmed by the fact that the carabinieri have allegedly already activated the special protection program for his closest relatives.
