The government is reportedly considering increasing the electricity subsidy, but no final decisions have been made yet, as the necessary funds to finance the measure will have to be secured.
Besides, the Prime Minister, coming to the Summit, recently announced new relief measures for electricity and gas.
However, according to the thoughts of the government staff, the subsidy for the month of December will increase horizontally for all consumers. In terms of amount, the prevailing scenario is for the subsidy to increase from 130 to 150 euros / megawatt hour. As there is a ceiling on the subsidy for the first 300 kilowatt hours, the amount of the monthly subsidy will be just under 50 euros per month, between 46 and 49 euros.
It is recalled that until November and according to the initial intentions of the government for December, the amount of the subsidy was 39 euros / month. This amount covered the increases in the wholesale price of electricity up to 220 euros / megawatt hour. However, as electricity prices have derailed and are very high, the government is considering increasing the amount of the subsidy for the current month. Indicatively to mention that for today the average price of the wholesale electricity has jumped to 328.46 euros per megawatt hour.
In any case, the decisions have not yet been locked as it will have to be considered whether the funds from the CO2 emission auctions that finance the subsidy measure are sufficient to cover the new increase that is being studied.
