The Governor of the Irkutsk Region will support the development of “civilized” mining in the region

The Governor of the Irkutsk Region Igor Kobzev sees a solution to the energy issue with miners in the provision of separate areas and lines for mining cryptocurrencies.

During a press conference, Irkutsk Governor
reported, which offers land plots for the placement of data centers in the region. Igor Kobzev believes that mining companies should conclude contracts directly with electricity suppliers to connect to a dedicated line. According to the head of the Baikal region, this will reduce the load on the power grids and reduce the number of incidents associated with power outages in dispatched points around the city, where there is intensive mining of digital currencies.

“We are ready to provide miners with platforms for industrial mining. This can be done, for example, in Ust-Ilimsk. But this must be done in a civilized way, so that there are separate lines without taking into account the networks of settlements. ”

Last month, the governor of the Irkutsk region published a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak asking for assistance in the recognition of mining as an entrepreneurial activity. According to him, over the past year, electricity consumption by the population has grown by 159%. He blames the “gray” miners for this.

According to him, the problem is that miners are not connected to a separate power line, but operate lines intended for consumer services. This leads to accidents and power outages. In addition to problems with electricity, miners have become a “headache” for the local population. In 2019, residents of one of the streets of Irkutsk complained of constant noise, which has been going on for 2 years. It came from a three-story building and came from a mining farm installed there.
