The Civil Defense of the State of São Paulo, through the Emergency Management Center (CGE), expanded the high fire risk alert until this Friday (6). The north, northwest and west regions of the state are in the danger area.
The regions highlighted on the Risk Map must continue with the dry weather with no rain forecast for the next few days. The areas are expected to face temperatures of almost 40ºC and critical relative humidity levels, that is, below 20%.
Temperatures are expected to reach 39ºC in Presidente Prudente (SP), Araçatuba (SP), Tupã (SP), Birigui (SP) and Martinópolis (SP). In these cities, relative humidity can reach 13% .
The dry climate of around 10% is comparable to the average humidity of deserts such as the Sahara, on the African continent, and the Atacama, in Chile.
High temperatures, strong winds and lack of rain are the main factors that contribute to forest fires.
In addition to São Paulo, 17 other states plus the Federal District have yellow alert for low humidity, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). Among the states, ten are on orange alert for a heat wave, with temperatures up to 5ºC above average.
The health recommendation is to avoid physical exercise and outdoor work between 10 am and 4 pm, avoid crowds, use saline solution for the eyes and nostrils, maintain good hydration and humidify the environment.
Civil Defense warns about some fire prevention measures, such as not setting fire to areas of dry vegetation, not throwing cigarette butts on the side of roads, not cleaning rural areas using fire techniques, not burning garbage and not releasing balloons.
