A Iranian journalist who was released on parole in mid-August was arrested again today by Iranian authorities for not wearing a headscarf, according to a local media outlet.
After the Islamic Revolution of 1979 women must cover their heads, hiding their hair when appearing in public. For a year now, however, more and more women, especially in the big cities, are walking around without a headscarf.

The journalist had already been arrested several times after being interviewed, in October 2022, by Amjad Amini, the father of Mahsha Amini. When she was released from prison on August 13, after another arrest, she posted a photo of herself with her head uncovered online.
Maroufian hails from Sakez, Amini’s hometown, in the Kurdistan province.
Earlier today, Iranian media reported that the trial of Makhsa Amini’s lawyer, Saleh Nikbakht, accused of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic” because he made statements to the media.
