The Ministry of Energy wants to create a register of mining equipment

The Ministry of Energy offered to create a unified register of mining equipment. Such an initiative was nominated by Deputy Minister of Energy Yevgeny Grabchak, holding a working meeting on the topic of mining regulation, reports RBC Crypto.

The Ministry of Energy stated that in order to effective regulation of cryptocurrency mining, it is important to adapt mining legislation to the current situation based on an analysis of already accumulated experience in this area, including forming more clear criteria for classifying cryptocurrency.

In this regard, Grabchak proposed to form a unified register of “equipment without which cryptocurrency mining is impossible.” According to the ministry, this will help to control miners more effectively.

“The fundamental task is to optimize the mechanisms of identifying mining activities and more clear observance of prohibitions on it in those regions where it is not permitted,” the Ministry of Energy said.

At the same time, the department noted that in regions where mining is justified, its development will help the growth of the economy, including thanks to the introduction of new technological solutions.

From January 1, 2025 to March 15, 2031, mining in ten regions was completely banned in Russia, including six republics of the North Caucasus and new territories. In the autumn-winter period, up to 2031, restrictions were introduced in certain territories of Buryatia, the Irkutsk region and the Trans-Baikal Territory.

These restrictions were introduced on the initiative of the Ministry of Energy. Grabchak explained their necessity by the fact that miners over two years increased electricity consumption by 14% and chose all free capacities in some areas, and therefore new consumers cannot connect to the networks.
