“The most similar image sensor to the human eye” – Samsung unveils ISOCELL GWB

Samsung has officially announced the development of the first ISOCELL image sensor with RGBW color model. The sensor is called ISOCELL GWB, it will have a resolution of 64 megapixels.

ISOCELL GWB was represented by vice president and head of research and development at Samsung Electronics China, who called it “the most similar image sensor to the human eye.” This is made possible by an RGBW color filter pattern, in which a new white pixel improves the sensor’s light sensitivity for better low-light photos and also improves color accuracy.

Samsung developed ISOCELL GWB in partnership with the Chinese company Tecno Mobile, so it is likely that the image sensor will initially be installed on Tecno’s smartphone as early as next year. However, it will not remain exclusive to Tecno, it will also appear on other brands’ phones.

It is unlikely that ISOCELL GWB will be used in the Galaxy S22 lineup. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is rumored to come with a 108MP main camera, while the Galaxy S22 and S22 + will use 50MP sensors.

It is also rumored that after the 64MP ISOCELL GWB sensor, the company will release a 50MP sensor with RGBW color model.
