The NATO military accidentally “cleaned up” the plant during an exercise in Bulgaria. The owner filed a lawsuit

In Bulgaria, the owner of a sunflower oil plant has filed a lawsuit against those responsible for the storming of the plant during a NATO exercise. Reported by Associated Press.

The incident occurred on May 11 during the Swift Response 2021 multinational exercise, which involved more than 7,000 paratroopers from ten NATO countries. The military “cleared” the building of a small factory by mistake.

The US Army reported that during the exercise, members of the Italian airborne brigade simulated the capture and security of the abandoned Chesnegirovo airbase in southern Bulgaria. They “cleaned out” bunkers and other structures. The soldiers entered the building near the airfield, mistaking the territory for part of the training zone. The fire was not opened.

The US Embassy in Bulgaria has apologized to the company and employees.

However, on Wednesday, June 2, the owner of the plant, Marine Dimitrov, told reporters that he had filed a lawsuit against those responsible for the incident.

  • On the night of May 7, 2021, a large-scale continental exercise Defender Europe 21 started in Estonia.
  • On May 17, the international NATO exercise Dynamic Front 2021 kicked off in Poland.
