NASA’s Perseverance rover fired at a “strange rock” on Mars. This was reported on the rover’s Twitter page.
“While the helicopter (drone reconnaissance Ingenuity, – ed.) is getting ready, I can’t help but study the nearby stones. This strange stone made my scientific team exchange many hypotheses, “write NASA’s CMM managers on behalf of the rover.
It is noted that the length of the stone is approximately 15 centimeters. If you look closely, you can see the marks from the rover’s laser on it, according to NASA. Click on the photo to enlarge.

The Perseverance team wrote in the comments several hypotheses about the origin of the stone. Scientists suggest that it could be:
– something weathered from local rocks;
– the part of Mars that fell into this area after a large-scale collision;
– Meteorite.
The list is open, scientists do not exclude that the stone may be something else.
