The Police and the CNMV warn of a scam to empty bank accounts through the impersonation of the telephone and the mail

The National Police and the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) have warned of fraud attempts to investors through the impersonation of the telephone number, Internet domains and the electronic mail of the institution itself.

As reported by the National Police, in telephone calls, personal or banking details are requested under the pretext of some official management, such as being interested in losses suffered by the investor in previous shares.

However, the alleged scammers try to access the investor’s bank accounts, their personal passwords and illegally appropriate their economic funds through these telephone calls.

Therefore, the Cnmv has warned that it does not request this type of information from investors by telephone or by any other means of communication.

In this sense, the Unit of Economic and Fiscal Crime (UDEF) of the National Police has opened an investigation into these fraud attempts under the attached collaboration agreement to fight against financial fraud.

Also, the Cnmv will take legal action to prevent and limit these practices, since this form of attempted fraud is combined with other forms of ‘phishing’ o de fraude, which were previously detected.

Among these fraudulent methods were the sending of communications to investors through email with domains similar to (@ cnmv.es), responses consulted from investors with scanned documents, format, content and false signatures of those responsible for the Cnmv and contracts of fraudulent companies with the logo of the institution to obtain the signature of investors.

Therefore, the National Police and the CMNV have recommended that the provenance of the communication received on their behalf be verified: check the email, distrust contracts or documents without the CNMV logo and remember that the Cnmv it does not invite you to make an investment or charge for it.
