When a few days ago the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, announced the total closure of the hotel, Ãlvaro Amores made a face. And like him, all the hoteliers in the province who once again saw the future of their business threatened. The answer has been a protest that every Thursday will bring together hundreds of vehicles to make their voices heard in search of a solution for the hotel industry in Castellón and the province.
What is your assessment of the protest held this past Thursday?
We are happy although these things are not cause for celebration. I wish we hadn’t had to celebrate it. People came from all over the province, with more than eight hundred vehicles and about three thousand people. Without a doubt, the word is satisfied.
How far do you plan to go?
As far as necessary. If we have to go to Valencia, we will go and cut the city center. Peacefully, as in Castellon. And, in addition, without concentrating large masses of people, which is also significant so that they do not tell us that we do not comply with the regulations.
Why do you think the hospitality is receiving this treatment?
We are a scapegoat, no more, no less. They think that something has to be closed and they choose ours. We have complied with all the protocols that have been requested and our data indicate that less than 2% of the infections that occur can be assigned to the hospitality sector. That is why we believe that this measure is totally disproportionate.
Are the measures complied with in the restaurants?
Absolutely already to the letter. Everything you’ve asked, we’ve done. The Community of Valencia and Castellón have been examples of how to carry out this situation. In fact, I feel safe in a restaurant. In a supermarket or a shopping center, no.
Other governments in Europe and the rest of the world have also opted for this type of measure …
It does not seem correct to us that a total closure of bars and restaurants is decreed, but we can understand that it is taken because of the difficult situation we are experiencing as long as we have aid in exchange, as other countries are doing.
What is your assessment of these grants presented by the Government and the Generalitat?
They are patches that are useless. We need other types of help. The most logical thing is that if we do not have any income at the moment, we do not pay any taxes. Instead, we continue to do so regularly. They are not aware of the damage they are doing.
When are you confident that businesses can reopen?
I wish this closing would be until next February 3 but I am afraid it will not be like that. In the first part of the pandemic it was two months. Now I do not know how long we will be, but with each passing day the situation becomes more dramatic.
How are you living this situation?
With much concern, like everyone else, I imagine. We are all people, we have relatives or known people who are having a very bad time. Let’s hope that the evolution, although at the moment the situation is very complicated, is favorable and soon we can recover our previous life.
