At the beginning of the talks, which began on July 17, according to the announcement of the White House, the two presidents exchanged greetings. State television and Russian news agencies broadcast footage of the two leaders exchanging greetings at the start of a media meeting.

“I salute you, Mr. President,” Putin told his American counterpart, shaking his hand and smiling.

“We’re leaving! Good morning: Glad to see you again,” Biden replied with a smile, adding: “Last time we did not meet at the G20, I hope next time we meet live.”

The talks are being held four-on-four, with the Russian president in Sochi and the American in Washington.
