The 37-year-old seems to be going through his most difficult period as a leader with lockdowns due to Covid-19 destroying the economy of the poor nation that has been “hit” by sanctions.
He also faced rumors of uncontrollable health after a three-week absence in April – and then returned after losing several pounds.
But Kim Jong Un now appeared smiling in the published photos.
The North Korean leader praised the workers for their “high faith, strong will and sweat” to carry out the project in the face of an “unfavorable environment” and said the city of Samjiyon would become a guideline for rural development.
He added that the four years the country has spent building Samjiyon, a project that included the construction of thousands of houses and buildings, as well as new roads and a power grid, have shown its unity and “iron will” to “achieve prosperity with in our own way, “the state-run KCNA news agency reported.
The city is located near Mount Paektu, the sacred mountain where Kim Jong Un’s family claims to have its roots, and has made many visits since 2018, with KCNA advertising it as “the epitome of modern civilization”.
