The small country that has vaccinated its adult population with one dose

The “world record” of vaccination against coronavirus belongs to a small island in the Pacific, Nauru, which has provided at least one dose of vaccine to its entire adult population.

This small country, which is one of the few in the world that did not record cases of coronavirus, announced that the immunization campaign exceeded its expectations.

Within a month, 7,392 people received a first dose of the vaccine against covid-19, ie about 108% of the adult population of the island. The number also includes foreigners living there, as AMPE explains.

“The action team that has taken on the fight against the coronavirus is pleased with this world record and thanks the people who helped keep Nauru a place without covid-19The government said in a statement.

Task Force President Kiren Keke acknowledged that the world’s smallest country was fortunate enough to have a sufficient number vaccines for the entire adult population, but adding that diagnostic tests for coronavirus will continue.

“With the arrival of every traveler there is still a risk that the coronavirus will enter Nauru and recent events in Papua New Guinea, Fiji and India show us how fast this can develop,” he said.

Nauru received doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the Covax program to distribute covid-19 vaccines to the poorest countries.
