In 1997, JLo gave us a bit of Selena’s life story, but through Netflix, we can now learn every little but very important detail of the singer’s life. Now we know what his beginnings were like and what he struggled to make a name for in the world of music.
Although many criticize the series, there are others who do enjoy each scene and the information that is revealed in each chapter, especially the most recent one and in which they tell the story of the song. I have no more. In case you missed it, here’s who and why wrote the song.
The true story behind I have no more it’s heartbreaking
In the latest episode of the series, we see how Selena is in the studio recording the bolero while composer Ricky Vela and Suzette, the singer’s sister, are watching her. Vela’s face is grim and although he tries to remain calm while Selena sings, his emotions give him away.
Very tenderly Suzette, who was just married, congratulates him on the song and he, heartbroken, sheds a tear as he struggles to smile. This revealed a huge secret to us: Vela had a crush on Suzzette!
There wasn’t just one romance in the band
Ricky Vela joined the band in 1985 as a composer and keyboardist and remained with the band until the singer’s death. During his time in the group, he wrote hits like The call, Pictures and memories Y The guy from apartment 512. For many years he was in love with Suzzette Quintanilla, but he was a very shy boy who always hid his feelings. Selena always tried to get him to admit how he felt about his sister, but he didn’t.
During an interview for the magazine Billboard 1994, Selena explained the situation between the composer and her sister.
I know Ricky liked me because he told me so. And I’d joke around and say, ‘Hey, Ricky, do you like it? Talk with her!’ But he never wanted to.
In 1993, Suzette married Bill Arriaga, with whom she still continues. And in 1994, Vela wrote the song Forbidden love, as a reflection of your feelings.
Now everyone feels identified with I have no more
Once the story behind the song became known in the series, more than a fan he felt identified because everyone has been in a similar situation. In addition, the lyrics absolutely reflect the emotional defeat you feel when you know that a person is forbidden and well … we have no more.
