After five months away, at Christmas, Tiziana will be able to reunite her family. They will find themselves in the “Peter Pan’s house»(Peter Pan association) in Rome, where the families of boys and girls with cancer are welcomed. Tiziana arrived here from Taranto last July, after her seven-year-old daughter Giuliana was diagnosed with the return of acute lymphoblastic leukemia type B. The first time was two years ago and after a long period of treatment Giuliana was discharged.
The Peter Pan House in Rome welcomes families of children with cancer and hospitalized away from home
Then the disease returned and with it the fear and the need to be hospitalized far from home, inside the Bambino Gesù hospital in Rome. Here, Tiziana found the help of the Peter Pan association which she guarantees welcome and free services to the entire family unit, for the entire duration of the therapies, including periodic follow-up checks, in a community dimension that allows families who live the same disease experience and are far from home, to share concerns, hopes and support each other. Today the Peter Pan house has become a large reception center which supports about 30 families in Trastevere.

«Today Giuliana is fine. We were lucky enough to access the experimental therapies with T-carts (Chimeric Antigen Receptor, chimeric antigen receptor T cells. A treatment in which T lymphocytes taken from a patient are reinfused into his body after being genetically modified in the laboratory to enhance their action against the tumor. ed). Even though Giuliana has been discharged a few weeks ago, it is necessary to stay here next to the hospital for very frequent checks and any emergencies. Fortunately we found a welcome in Peter Pan’s home, with his wonderful collaborators. The most important thing is to be able to see my whole family together again. So, it really is Christmas ».
