The Turkish bank HalkBank has started accepting the cards of the Russian payment system Mir, it stated on its website.
“In Turkey you can withdraw cash and pay for purchases at the terminals of Turkiye Iş Bankasi, Ziraat Bankasi, VakifBank, DenizBank and Halkbank,” Mir’s technical support department confirmed to Interfax.
He also said that some banks could independently make decisions to suspend the service of Russian bank cards subject to foreclosure sanctions and refuse to deal with Mir cards.
The first deputy governor of the Central Bank of Russia, Olga Skorobogatova, said earlier that Mir cards are about 50% acceptable in Turkey. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on May 18th that terminals for Mir card payments would be installed in Turkish hotels.
Mir cards are now accepted in ten countries and territories, including Turkey, Vietnam, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
