Images of child sexual abuse created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications are proliferating, making it increasingly difficult to identify victims and perpetrators, Europol warned today. “The volume of automatically produced images of sexual material is now a significant and growing part of sexual child pornography on the Internet” and “is expected to spread further in the near future,” the Hague-based European police service underlines in its report. Even in cases where the content is entirely AI-generated and does not depict actual victims, AI-generated child pornography still contributes to the objectification and sexualization of children, Europol pointed out.
