The German company Nitrokey has unveiled the NitroPhone 1, which is touted as “the world’s safest smartphone.” The creators assure that the device combines “security, privacy and a simple user interface”, but the price for this is a considerable 630 euros. And not insignificant because the NitroPhone 1 is, in fact, a renamed Google Pixel 4a with a different skin. At the same time, the cost of the Pixel 4a in the US is only $ 350.

NitroPhone 1 runs GrapheneOS, a fork of pure Android without Google services, previously known as CopperheadOS. The creators of the smartphone assure that, if necessary, Google Mobile Services can be installed, but the absence of GMS guarantees the impossibility of tracking user actions by Google. Other security features include the lack of application access to IMEI, smartphone serial number, SIM card number, MAC address, launch of all applications in the sandbox, “lightning-fast distribution of security updates”, end-to-end encrypted automatic backups to a USB drive or any cloud storage, etc.

The Google Pixel 4a, we recall, is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC, has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash memory, a 5.81-inch screen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, a 12-megapixel camera, a standard headphone jack and an NFC adapter.
