AndElizabeth IIwho became queen because someone before her gave up the crown, he will never abdicate. All experts agree on this. For example, biographer Andrew Morton, who just published the book The Queen, 70 years as a Queen, is categorical: «It is out of the question. A few more tasks could be passed on to Carlo and William, such as travel. Of course has never been so loved. I doubt he will leave, unless he has serious impediments, as happened to George III. ”
With the crown firmly on her head, leaning on a naturally accepted walking stick, Elizabeth at 96 has a lot of fun showing us what it will be like the monarchy of tomorrow: smiling, modern, not boring at all. In the confusing times we find ourselves in, it’s a pleasure to know.
A taste was given by the images published on the Royal family’s Instagram profile for the Garter Day, celebrations in honor of the Order of the Garter, the oldest knightly order in Great Britain. The novelty of the last edition was the admission in the ranks of the knights of the Duchess of Cornwall: just that Camilla who went from being poorly tolerated shade in the marriage between Carlo and Diana a future queen. A transformation that no one in the past would have ever imagined and witnessed by a photo: the queen, with a purse and cane, a serene gaze, posing between smiling Carlo and Camilla, dressed in sumptuous dark blue velvet cloaks lined with taffeta. The Duchess knows how to show herself happy despite having the demanding felucca with long white feathers on her head. Elizabeth thus wanted to accompany her subjects in the monarchy that she will come, which she will have on the throne a couple for a long time considered clandestine. And never mind if Andrea will not be there, left out of the celebrations of the Order of which he too is a part. That is a royal family that no longer exists.
In the monarchy to come, Carlo and Camilla will be joined by many, beloved, characters. For instance Princess Annawho at 71 years old is the member of the royal family most engaged in official events: 368 in 2021 alone. with her an exclusive relationship of full confidence. This has not always been the case, because her divorce from her first husband, Mark Phillips, did not please Elizabeth. But this story is also part of the past.
Another postcard from the future, the following image, which portrays the counts of Wessex: Edwardperhaps the most shy of the queen’s children, and his consort Sophie. Since Harry and Meghan are gone, they have become more and more important to the sovereign and every time they show themselves in official events they know how to draw smiles for their affable ways. Sophie, blonde, tireless, always energetic, has a special bond with Elizabeth and can even call her “mama”.
And then, in one of the latest photos posted on the profile of the royal family, there is the splendid smile of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, the “commoner” who will be a perfect queen. She is portrayed in a carriage, together with Camilla, Carlo and William. A modern woman who knows how to capture the gaze of others simply by being equal to herself, in the perfection that she shows at official events as well as when she manages to contain the whims of her children, or while she caresses the goats revealing that she has an ancestor breeder. The journalist Antonio Caprarica, a great connoisseur of the Windsors, is convinced that “the fate of the monarchy rests on her shoulders”.
After the days of great celebration of the Platinum Jubilee, these photos are now arriving to reassure the subjects and remind us all that, having banned the scandals that were, the monarchy of the future will still make people dream. The queen may have wanted to send a signal to those who bet on the end of the British crown after her. Because, confirms the biographer Andrew Morton, “Elizabeth, since childhood, he has always had this spiteful temptation: ruining other people’s plans and ladders“.
