Maggie Mundwiller is a mother of two who was severely affected by the pandemic, like hundreds of people in the world. The vast majority of their colleagues were sent home to work from there. However, she did not suffer the same fate and was fired.
After being unemployed for a year, she finally got a job interview, the only problem she had is that she did not know who to leave her little Mylo with. Fortunately, the company told him that he could take it and that was how they both went to ask for a job.
Maggie didn’t have a babysitter
In a video she shared on TikTok, which by the way already has more than eight million views, Maggie recounted how she was called for a job interview. She was anxious because she had not worked for about a year and this would be a good opportunity to get a job, the only problem was that she did not have anyone to take care of her son Mylo, who was only one year old, and she did not have money to hire a babysitter.
The interviewer told her that the little one could accompany her
After explaining the situation to the recruiter, they let him know that the company accepted children and that he could bring his baby without any problem. So Maggie dressed Mylo in a beautiful suit, even made him a little resume for him to wear so everyone would know he was a great kid. Among the highlights of the boy came:
- Take off the diaper
- Smell flowers with your teeth
- Destroy a space in less than 30 seconds
- Go down the stairs holding mom’s hand
It was a very entertaining interview
During an interview, Maggie said that she applied for a Marketing / Sales position in the senior products industry.
The interview felt more relaxed than a normal one. I could be myself without hiding any part of my personal life.
Throughout the interview, her son sat on her lap, and although she was distracted a couple of times taking care of him, the recruiters just smiled and let her do her job, even offering her a pickle so the little one could eat it.
We need more companies that accept children
In his TikTok account, he spoke of the need for more workplaces where they accept that children are part of people’s lives.
‘Family friendly’ workplaces will look different in each place. I don’t think taking your kids to work is the perfect solution or the only solution. I want companies to analyze their organization and see where they have room to be more inclusive. It could be creating a family-friendly culture, flexible hours, parental leave for all genders, childcare in the workplace, etc.
In case you were wondering, Maggie did get an offer
I hope parents feel validated with my story. I want you to know that you are not alone. I hope that people continue to share their experiences with me so that I can help them raise their voices and inspire companies to change their standards.
Maggie got the long-awaited job and has a website where she helps other parents find a job at a company like the one she now belongs to.
