This Mexican designer is the genius behind the looks of ‘Euphoria’

If there’s one thing we all love about euphoria, in addition to its incredible plot, of course!, are the fantastic outfits that the award-winning HBO series has featured in each of our favorite characters.

However, if there is a character that never ceased to amaze us, it was that of Maddy Perez, played by Alexa Demie, and it could not be otherwise, because her wardrobe full of daring, transparencies and a lot of brightness also became a key piece for the development of the plot.

The genius behind outfits from euphoria

So we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to recognize one of the people behind these incredible outfits loaded with personality: the talented Aidan Euan, a 25-year-old Mexican designer, known in the fashion world for his incredible designs with Swarovski pieces that have even been worn by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian.

The son of a young single mother, Aidan was born in Yucatan, Mexico. His mother worked as a seamstress and that is how his love for fashion and design was born. Aidan says that he was fascinated by the way his mother, aunts and cousins glamorously dressed up before heading out and joining their hometown carnival, dressing up as beautiful festival showgirls, basking in their femininity, sensuality and beauty.

His designs are the result of fusing the Latin and American pop cultures of the 2000s.

About Maddy’s creations, Aidan stated in an interview with the American magazine Variety which was inspired by many of the Latin stars and telenovelas of the early 2000s, such as the girls from Rebel, dreamers, Friends and rivals, Ruby and the iconic Thalía and Paulina Rubio, as well as American pop stars.

The mood boards I created to get to the look come from who the character is in my head. To me, Maddy is a mix of many of the soap operas and Latin stars of the early 2000s, as well as American pop stars.

When designing the majestic garments with which the character parades through the halls of East Highland High School, the stylist appropriates signatures of the Y2K style while taking up references from his childhood. In 2000, Aidan emigrated with his family to the United States, where he began to admire the style and pop culture of California, which is reflected in his designs.

In addition, the work of the talented Aidan is 100 percent handmade, since he makes each piece by hand, gluing thousands of sparkling crystals on dresses, necklaces, stockings and bikinis. The designer has given Maddy a modern yet nostalgic “Mexican-American” stamp.

His inspiration is ancient

Aidan spent his early years in the Mexican city of Mérida, in the state of Yucatán, raised in the nearby town of Telchac, a beach paradise where ancient Mayan temples stood. The fashion designer was inspired by the landscape to create his online store AKNA, named after the Mayan goddess of fertility.

For me AKNA means femininity, the Mexican and Latin American woman, but it also means for me the freedom to create anything and give life to whatever you want without obstacles. A lot of the businesses I run and all the creative design for my brand comes from her, from what I learned from her about entrepreneurship and how she managed to turn it all into a business.

His talent impressed the director of euphoria

During the first season, Alexa wore two pieces from the Yucatecan designer, who in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Mexico he noted that these designs were pieces from his personal collection that were already being sold on his online store, but he customized them for the Maddy character.
