THE Hezbollah announced the death of three of its members on Saturday after an Israeli airstrike targeted, according to the country's news agency, their car in the southern Lebanonagainst the backdrop of a sharp rise in tension over the past nearly five months.
Since the day after the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, Hezbollah launches virtually daily attacks against Israeli border positions. Israel retaliates by launching raids, sometimes targeted, against the Lebanese armed movement.
In separate statements, Hezbollah announced the deaths of three of its fighters, without giving details.

According to the Lebanese news agency ANI, “an enemy drone targeted a vehicle (yesterday) morning on a road leading to the coastal city of Nakura.”
An AFP source in Lebanon's security forces said three Hezbollah fighters were killed in the strike.

The Israeli military confirmed in its own statement that it hit a car it said was carrying “terrorists who fired rockets at Israeli territory.”
Before the Israeli raid, Hezbollah announced that it had carried out an early morning drone strike against a military position in northern Israel.
On Friday, an Israeli shelling of a house in the southern Lebanon community of Ramia killed at least four members of Hezbollah, according to the group.
In the past nearly five months of hostilities, at least 296 people, mostly fighters from Hezbollah and other allied factions, but also at least 46 civilians, have been killed in southern Lebanon, according to an AFP tally.
In northern Israel, 16 people — ten members of the armed forces and six civilians — have been killed, according to the army.
Tens of thousands of people have been displaced on both sides of the border.
