According to Tigran Gambaryan, from the first moment it was clear that the Nigeria authorities intend to use the illegally detained Binance top managers as hostages and pursue specific financial goals. For pressure on the exchange, they brought fabricated accusations of tax evasion and money laundering.
In particular, the Minister of Information of Nigeria Mohammed Idris said that Binance and its employees are responsible for tax evasion, inciting to the depreciation of Nigerian Nyra, laundering of illegal income and conducting illegal business.
“They saw in me an asset that could be used to get billions from Binance,” Gambaryan said.
He emphasized that his liberation was the result of powerful international pressure, especially during the UN General Assembly in 2024.
“When the pressure on the government of Nigeria increased significantly, they finally realized that I was rather a burden than an asset,” said Gambaryan.
The Binance top manager added that during the conclusion his health was seriously injured: he suffered fineumonia and malaria, and he also formed a hernia of the spine. Tigran Gambaryan was released from arrest in Kujj prison on October 23, 2024, after eight months of imprisonment.
