A new series in the franchise “Tomb Raider” is being produced for the streaming platform Prime Video with script and executive production by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (better known as “Fleabag”).
“The legacy continues,” the Amazon MGM Studios account wrote in the announcement post, promising to “expand the 'Tomb Raider' universe.”
“If I could tell my teenage self that this is happening, I think she would explode. 'Tomb Raider' has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to bring it to television with such passionate collaborators,” Phoebe said in the production's official statement.
“Lara [Croft] It means a lot to me, as it does to many, and I can't wait to embark on this adventure. With bats and everything,” she added.
The project is part of the agreement between Crystal Dinamics, developer responsible for the game “Tomb Raider” (which started the franchise) and Amazon MGM Studios.
The series is executive produced by Crystal Dynamics, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robbins through Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M. Johnson through dj2 Entertainment, Michael Scheel and Legendary Television.
Amanda Greenblatt and Ryan Andolina are consulting producers for Star Party. The series is produced by Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios.
New “Tomb Raider” game
In addition to the series, the partnership between the developer and Amazon Games should also result in a new multiplatform “Tomb Raider” game, with no name yet defined.
“The game is intended to be played by a single player, driven by an action-adventure narrative, and will be an all-new next chapter for Lara Croft’s legendary adventures in the franchise,” the statement added.
The game has been adapted for film before, with Angelina Jolie playing the protagonist Lara Croft in two feature films from 2001 and 2003.
More recently, in 2018, Alicia Vikander brought Croft to life in a prequel to the story.
