Trade confidence in June reaches the highest level in ten months, points out FGV

Brazilian trade confidence rose once again in June. With a rise of 4.6 points, the Trade Confidence Index (ICOM) reaches 97.9 points and approaches the neutrality level of 100 points, a moment in which sector entrepreneurs are neither optimistic nor pessimistic about the economy. from the country.

Performances below that indicate distrust of the business.

The data were released this Wednesday (29) by the Brazilian Institute of Economics of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV IBRE).

The economist and study coordinator, Rodolpho Tobler, explains that the advance — the second in a row — is already capable of resuming the losses recorded by the category between the end of 2021 and the beginning of this year.

“The improvement occurs in both time horizons, but with greater intensity in the indicators that measure the perception with the sales volume at the moment. The ISA-COM Index of the Current Situation of Trade accumulates an increase of more than 30 points in the last four months, recovering what was lost in the deceleration”, he emphasizes.

Despite the positive performance, the expert warns that businessmen in the industry should slow down a little bit from now on.

“For the next few months, some caution is still necessary, the great challenge becomes the continuity of this favorable scenario even with the end of the release of extraordinary resources, macroeconomic environment still unfavorable and consumer confidence at a low level,” he emphasizes.

With this month’s performance, trade closes the second quarter of 2022 on a high.

The research highlights that, in this period, positive expectations were driven, in particular, by the perceptions of the business community about the present moment.
