A 39-year-old man from Alabama he was expecting his pregnant ex-girlfriend from the domestic violence shelterwhere he lived and as soon as he met her he stabbed her to death because he thought she would accuse him of domestic violence event that would send him back to jail. The attacker was released from prison on June 2 after serving 14 years of a 16-year sentence for weapons charges and homicide negligence in the 2008 death of his girlfriend Crystal Bailey.
Shortly after his release, he and Hennessy began dating. Hennessy had filed at least two domestic violence complaints against Stokes while they were together. Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor said at a news conference that a body was found at a fire station, which doubles as refuge for victims of domestic violence. The victim, 37-year-old Treasure Hennessy, was stabbed several times by the attacker, reports the lawandcrime.
Her partner, Mr Bradley Wayne Stokes, was arrested Saturday afternoon and faces charges of murdering both Hennessy and the unborn child. Hennessy was eight weeks pregnant with Stokes’ child, authorities said. The woman moved out of Stokes’ home late last month and found housing in domestic violence shelter. Stokes found out where she lived on Friday and went there to wait for her. “I believe the evidence will show that Stokes was waiting for her,” police say.
After killing her, the defendant moved her vehicle behind a barn to hide it before driving away in his car. “I believe the evidence in this case will show that Stokes’ motive for this crime was that he understood that Hennessy was going to report him for domestic violence, which would violate his probation and send him back to prison for the remainder of his sentence,” Taylor said.
Officers have collected a knife they believe was used in the murder. Stokes will be extradited to Russell County in the coming days. If convicted, he could even face the death penalty.
