Hundreds of people – about a thousand, according to the Al Arabiya network – had flooded the wedding reception hall, which became the site of the fire.
According to the Iraqi Ministry of Health, at least 100 people were killed and more than 150 were injured by the fire that broke out under unclear circumstances in a building in the Hamdaniya district. However, it should be noted that local media report the ignition of sparklers and fireworks as a possible cause of the fire.
