Shock has been caused in Russia by the news that a Bolshoi dancer was killed during a performance.
The theater clarified that the accident occurred during a change of scenery, while the opera Sandko, by the Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, was presented.
“The opera was stopped immediately and the audience was asked to leave”, states the Bolshoi in his comments broadcast by the Russian news agency Interfax.
The Moscow Commission of Inquiry announced that investigates the circumstances surrounding the death of the dancer, whose name has not been made public.
The 37-year-old, who was seriously injured, succumbed to his injuries before an ambulance arrived, according to the same source.
Interfax also quoted a source as saying that the dancer was killed by a ramp that fell during a change of scenery. Sources also told the Russian news agencies RIA and TASS that the artist-singer was killed by a part of the scenes that fell.
This is not the first tragedy faced by this well-known Moscow theater: in July 2013, a violinist lost his life after falling into the orchestra.
