In the late 1990s and early 2000s, it was common to tune in to the radio and hear a song from Travis . Hits like “sing ” and “Side ” were also part of the soap opera soundtrack and were present on the alternative tracks of the MTV .
Despite their success, the Scottish band never achieved the same level of fame as another group that emerged at the same time, Oasis. However, it doesn’t seem to matter to them. “My mother asked the other day, during a telephone conversation with me: ‘These people [os brasileiros] do you know you still exist?’”, recalled the Travis singer, Fran Healy in an interview with CNN .
Whether they know it or not, one thing is certain: this time, the group led by Healy returns to Brazil again. However, it will be first time the band will perform exclusively for their fans and not as part of a festival, as occurred in 2013, at Planet Earth .
“It wasn’t very good. We realized that the public just wasn’t interested in us. We were playing and doing our best but nobody cared”, reports the vocalist. “Nobody sang with us, people were idly waiting for the next act. I hope this time is different.”
Travis will perform this Tuesday (5), at 9pm, at Audio in São Paulo, in a show that is part of the tour for the group’s new album, “LA Times “. Although they are promoting the new work, the vocalist promised to include some of the band’s great classics, such as the famous “Sing” and “Side”.
“Let’s bring a little bit of everything as we still don’t know how fans are reacting to our new work, which is very different from our biggest hits. Since we have more time on the road playing other songs, it’s a different experience compared to LA Times,” he explained.
The band began its activities in 1997 with the album “Good Feeling”, but it was in 1999, with the release of its second studio work, “The Man Who”, that it achieved great success.
The album raised the status of the band, which began to be identified as one of those responsible for boosting the Britpop catchy and danceable pop music movement originating in United Kingdom .
Due to the time in which it emerged, the band is often compared to Oasis. However, Healy assures that there is no animosity towards the Gallagher brothers. “We always got along well with them; We’ve done three tours together “, comments Healy. “Britpop is full of more affluent bands. Travis, on the other hand, is very working class, just like Liam and Noel.”
Although the first experience in Brazil was not the best, Healy believes that this time it will be different. “I confess that I am still surprised to know that people go to our show and buy tickets. Even in the UK this impresses me. I hope everyone has fun, because we sure will .”
