A short trek in Assisi, to experience the slow pace that goes well with the rhythm of thoughts, a walk in nature which can be a meditation of the soulbetween music and meeting. The destination is Mount Subasio, among woods and ancient abbeys, with widespread concerts by the Micrologus ensemble.
«Ascent to the Mountain» It is a unique experience between hiking and spirituality, an easy trek in Assisi that promotes the beauty of nature, art and being together promoted by the tourist office of the Municipality and scheduled for July 13th and 14th which in its second edition is proposed as one of the most anticipated events of the Assisi summer.
How the journey unfolds
The appointment is on July 13th (and it will be repeated in the same way on July 14th) with meeting at 4.00 pm in the nearby parking lot of the Hermitage of Carceri in Assisi and departure at 4.30 pm, for a circular route between the sacred and the profane, of about 7.5 km with a total difference in altitude uphill of 350 metres, accompanied by qualified hiking guides.
From the slopes of Mount Subasio, you cross the centuries-old holm oak forest that surrounds the Eremo delle Carceri, a monumental complex that was born and developed around the cave where Saint Francis retreated to pray. A place deeply imbued with spirituality, in an uncontaminated naturalistic context.
The journey will continue through a 4km path that leads to the ancient Abbey of San Benedettoa very suggestive building dating back to the 10th century, recently opened to the public, inhabited only by a hermit. During the walk through woods and abbeys, The Micrologus Ensemblecomposed of internationally renowned musicians, will offer widespread concerts, with songs and music inspired by the theme of Creatures (trees, woods, plants, animals, men) and How to find the concept of “Divine” through active walking meditation.
A topic that unites Saint Francis of Assisi, who in the «Canticle of the Creatures» praises all creatures and natural elements, the German Benedictine mystic Hildegard von Bingen lived between 1098-1179, who in his “Book of Creatures” introduces the theologian to the knowledge of plants and living beings Raymond of Sabunde which at the end of the 15th century deals with the relationship between man and nature and Pope Francis, who in the encyclical “Laudato si” highlights the need to take care of the planet, our “common home”, bringing back to the center of the global debate a theme also dear to medieval mystics.
Grand finale of the event, it will be a concert spread across various locations inside and outside the ancient Abbey, which can be visited with the guidance of experts. At the end, the Benedictine nuns of Sant’Anna, who manage the structure, will offer hikers a tasting of typical products and craft beer, made in their own home.

The excursion is completely free, conceived and organized by the Municipality of Assisi, with the collaboration of the guides of the Gmp Gaia Association. Reservations are mandatory, until all available places are filled.
