Far-right League leader Matteo Salvini’s plan to name Milan’s airport after controversial former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi is sparking a backlash, with Milan’s mayor protesting today that the decision was made in his absence. Salvini, deputy prime minister and transport minister in the government of Georgia Meloni, announced this surprise decision last Friday in a televised broadcast. “The final decision belongs to the transport minister and I am ready to sign it, with pride and emotion, in memory of my friend Silvio, a great businessman, a great Milanese and a great Italian,” he said on Friday.
