United States President Joe Biden’s meeting with President-elect Donald Trump in the Oval Office this Wednesday (13) “was important – an exchange of views”, declared White House Press Secretary Karine Jean -Pierre, during a press conference.
“They discussed important national security and domestic policy issues facing the nation and the world,” commented Jean-Pierre. “President Biden also raised important issues on Congress’s to-do list, including funding the government and providing supplemental disaster funding requested by the president.”
The meeting, which lasted approximately two hours, included current White House chief of staff Jeff Zients and new chief of staff Susie Wiles.
The meeting also marked a return to presidential traditions after Trump – who contested the results of the 2020 election – refused to extend the White House’s traditional invitation to then-president-elect Biden.
According to Jean-Pierre, Biden “reiterated what he said to the president-elect the day after the election and to the American people in the Rose Garden last week: an orderly and peaceful transition of power.”
