In a couple of tweets Monday afternoon, President Donald Trump said he fired his Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper.
Lately we’ve seen a number of exits from the Pentagon.
Esper’s tenure as a senior Pentagon official followed the resignations of the first secretary of DTrump’s defenseman, James Mattis, and then-acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan.
” Mark Esper has been terminated. I would like to thank you for your service, ” Trump tweeted, followed by:
“I am pleased to announce that Christopher C. Miller, the highly respected Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (confirmed unanimously by the Senate), will be Acting Secretary of Defense, effective immediately.”
Market implications
The news is unlikely to be risk-friendly on the sidelines considering Esper was against sending in the army to deal with the unrest.
There is a deeply divided America over the controversial outcome of the US elections and markets are on guard for possible unrest.
