Trump holds first campaign event since apparent assassination attempt

Former US President Donald Trump walked through the crowd and shook hands with supporters at his first campaign event since the apparent assassination attempt on him on Sunday (15).

Trump emerged from a curtain at a hockey arena in Flint, Michigan, and walked down a long path lined with metal barricades and guarded by security guards. People leaned forward to greet him and shake his hands.

Often at rallies, Trump will take the stage from a raised platform and wave to supporters in the crowd without getting close.

“They think racing cars are dangerous. No, they think bull riding is too scary, right? No, this is a dangerous business, so we have to keep it safe,” Trump told Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Sanders, a former White House press secretary, hosted a town hall with Michigan voters.

Introducing Trump, Sanders said: “The left has tried everything they can think of. They tried to impeach this president. They tried to throw him in prison, and not once but twice, two would-be assassins have tried to overthrow this president.”

The crowd chanted “fight, fight, fight,” a rallying cry popularized after the attempted assassination of Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.
