Former US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (4) attacked US Vice President Kamala Harris and said that Democrats rallied around her – who is the first black and Asian-American woman to lead a political party’s ticket – because they “wanted to be politically correct”.
“They didn’t want her, but they wanted to be politically correct, like so many people these days, and they picked someone they didn’t want,” the Republican presidential candidate said on “The Pulse of New Hampshire” radio show.
Trump’s remarks at a New Hampshire event come as the Democratic presidential candidate is set to campaign in the state on Wednesday. The remarks also came a day after he posted on Truth Social urging supporters to show their support in the region, following a Boston Globe report that a top Trump volunteer wrote in an email to other volunteers in the state that “the campaign has determined that New Hampshire is no longer a swing state” and they should instead focus on Pennsylvania.
Trump said he was having meetings to prepare for next week’s debate with Kamala, but added that “there’s not much that can be done.”
“I have been preparing my entire life for this debate,” Trump said.
With the debate approaching, the US presidential race has entered a critical phase.
