Trump talks about “blowing up Iran” if presidential candidate is threatened

Donald Trump said on Wednesday (25) that if he were president, he would tell Iran or any country that if they harmed a “leading candidate” in a US presidential election “we would blow their biggest cities and the country itself to smithereens.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said earlier in the day that the US government is “intensely tracking” an ongoing threat from Iran against current and former US officials.

Furthermore, the CNN reported that law enforcement officials are concerned about the lingering threat of Iran possibly trying to assassinate former Trump officials and the former president himself.

“If I were the president, I would inform the threatening country — in this case, Iran — that if you do anything to harm this person, we will blow your major cities and the country itself to smithereens. We will blow you to smithereens. You cannot do that. And there would be no more threats,” the Republican said during a campaign event in Mint Hill, North Carolina.

“But now we don’t have that leadership or the necessary people, the necessary leaders,” the former president alleged.

Trump pointed out that it would not matter whether the candidate was Republican or Democrat.

He also thanked Democrats in Congress for passing a bill that ensures he and Vice President Kamala Harris receive the same level of Secret Service protection as a sitting president.

Trump has also continued to criticize the leadership of the FBI, the US federal investigative agency, and has claimed, without evidence, that they are focused “on the political opponents of the sitting president.” The Republican has regularly claimed, without evidence, that the US justice system is being weaponized against him.

Finally, the former president stated that he was “threatened very directly by Iran” and “we all need to come together to thwart these attempts.”
