United States House Speaker Mike Johnson invited President Donald Trump this Saturday (25) to speak at a joint session of Congress on March 4, according to an open letter posted on X.
Trump accepted the invitation, a White House official told CNN.
“The Golden Age of America has begun. Thanks to your strong leadership and bold action in the early days of your presidency, the United States is already experiencing a resurgence of patriotism, unity, and hope for the future,” Johnson wrote.
“Your administration and the 119th Congress working together have the chance to make these next four years some of the most consequential in our nation’s history,” he added.
Historically, U.S. presidents deliver an important address to Congress called the “State of the Union.”
However, as this will be the first address of Trump’s new term, it will not technically be called a “State of the Union” address.
Since 1977, newly inaugurated presidents have not called their first speech before a joint session of Congress this way. These addresses are often called an “annual message” or a speech on a specific topic.
