Florida Senator Marco Rubio said Wednesday that he was impressed with how Donald Trump won the presidency by “fundamentally remaking the Republican Party.”
“What impressed me most was not just the size of the victory, I know the number is still growing, but the way Donald Trump won this election. He won by fundamentally remaking the Republican Party, but I hope he also reveals to people that for voters in the United States of America, their primary identity is not their ethnicity. It’s not your race. It’s what they do for a living. It’s who they are in their daily lives,” Rubio said.
Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, also spoke about the Hispanic vote and said experts were discussing how Trump would not be competitive because celebrities, such as Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez, did not support him.
Trump made gains among Latino men and won that group by 8 points, four years after losing them by 23 points. It’s a result that showed his campaign’s efforts to woo these voters paid off.
“These people are hardworking. These people are fathers and mothers, and they have children. And they are small business owners, and they are employees of a company that is sending a job abroad. They need to be appealed as Americans because that’s what they are,” Rubio said.
Rubio, who has been one of Trump’s most outspoken supporters during the campaign, was present last night at Trump’s campaign watch party.
