Turkey: Former Prime Minister Tansu Ciller's husband has died

The husband of Turkey's first and only female prime minister, Tansu Çiler, died at the age of 86 from a heart attack. Ozer Utsuran Ciller died today, Saturday morning, at the couple's home in Nihori, Bosphorus, due to a heart attack, while he had recently been undergoing hemodialysis. Born in 1937, Ozer Utsuran Çiler was an engineer and businessman, and after his marriage in 1963, he took his wife's surname, a rare occurrence in the traditions of Turkish society. Ozer Utsuran Ciller, after completing his general studies at the Saint Joseph French School in Istanbul, studied engineering at the American Robertio School (later Bosphorus University) in the city. He continued his postgraduate studies at the Universities of Boston and Connecticut in the United States. He stayed and worked for eight years in the USA before returning to Turkey and taking over as CEO of the well-known Cukurova Holding Group in Turkey.
