Turkey: Islamic party’s proposal to strip Turkish citizenship of those who joined the Israeli army passed

The Turkish National Assembly accepted the proposal of the small extreme Islamist party, Huda-Par, to discuss in the Plenary a draft law that removes Turkish citizenship and confiscates their property in Turkey from citizens who simultaneously have Israeli citizenship and serve in the Israeli army. The Islamic party in last year’s presidential elections had supported the candidacy of the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Huda-Par president Zekeriya Yapizioglu, speaking in the National Assembly, said his party’s proposal “provides that murderers who commit genocide, regardless of religion or nationality, wherever they are in the world, will be tried and punished in Turkey and that those among the dual nationals who do not comply with the call to ‘return home’ will be deprived of their citizenship within three months and their assets will be confiscated.” The Prosperity Party and the Happiness Party voted for the AKP.
