Turkey will strive to rebuild damaged infrastructure, hospitals and schools in Gaza if a ceasefire is reached. This is what Turkish media reported this Saturday (18), citing President Tayyip Erdogan.
“If a ceasefire is reached, we will do whatever is necessary to compensate for the destruction caused by Israel,” Erdogan told reporters on his plane upon returning from a trip to Berlin, where he held talks with German leaders.
“We will make efforts to rebuild the damaged infrastructure in Gaza and rebuild destroyed schools, hospitals, water and energy facilities,” he added, according to broadcaster A Haber on its website.
This week, Erdogan asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to report whether Israel has nuclear weapons, and he returned to the topic in his comments to journalists, requesting inspections of nuclear weapons in the country.
“As Türkiye, we are making this call. Israel’s nuclear weapons must undoubtedly be inspected before it is too late. We will monitor this,” she said.
Erdogan also said that families of Israelis held hostage by the radical Islamic group Hamas sent him a letter requesting his intervention to secure the hostages’ release, and he said the Turkish intelligence agency had been called in to investigate the matter.
