Turkish Medical Association: Turkovac is not a vaccine yet – It has only been tested in mice

Turkish Medical Association (TTB) Secretary General Vedat Bulut said Turkovac, Turkey’s domestic vaccine against COVID-19, could not yet be called a vaccine but rather a chemical solution, the ANK news agency reported.

Bulut told ANKA on Wednesday that no Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials had been conducted for Turkovac, which was developed by the Center for Vaccine Research and Development and the Center for Good Clinical Practice and Research at Erzurum University with the support of Insti Turkey and that it received an emergency use permit from the Turkish authorities in December.

Bulut recalled the remarks of Erziges University Rector Mustafa Tsalis, who revealed that as a result of university studies in genetically modified mice, Turkovac was found to be 100% effective against the Delta variant as well as against the Delta variant.

“This statement does not reflect the truth.… It cannot be accepted as scientific data.… No Phase 1, Phase 2 or Phase 3 tests have been performed for this vaccine. What we mean by these tests is that the studies should were conducted in healthy volunteers, but this was not done. What was released as a result of the Phase 1 trials [για το Turkovac] “It is based on a preclinical study involving animal experiments,” said Bulut.

He added that TTB asked the Turkish Ministry of Health under what conditions an emergency license was issued in the vaccine without reliable scientific data, but had not yet received a response.

“The Ministry of Health should be as transparent as possible about this and the studies should be published promptly in scientific journals so that our specialist bodies… can review these documents and provide information on Turkovac.… No “We are so concerned about the side effects of this vaccine, but we do not have data on its protection,” Bulut said.

Bulut also said that only the results of the Turkovac Phase 1 tests are available on the World Health Organization (WHO) website, which was a preclinical study that did not include test results in human volunteers.

Turkey started distributing Turkovac on December 30th to its citizens.
