Tweet Erdogan, Akar, Kalin on ‘Attila’: the invading soldiers are ‘heroes’ – the Cypriots are ‘slaughterers’

With a tweet, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan celebrated the black anniversary of Attila, the day Turkish troops invaded and occupied the northern part of Cyprus under the false argument that the attack was aimed at bringing peace to the island.

In his post, the Turkish president calls the invading soldiers heroes and asks for God’s mercy for them: “I congratulate for the 48th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation which buried forever in history the attempt that was directed against the sovereignty, the existence, the righteous and the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people who are sovereign, equal and co-owners of the island.

I ask God’s mercy for our martyrs and express my gratitude to our heroes.”

In the same line and Ibrahim Kalin, the representative of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who wrote: “48 years ago today our soldiers responded to oppression and ensured peace in Cyprus. We will continue to defend the rights and freedoms of Turkish Cypriots, with the same determination, as it is our national issue. On the anniversary of the Peace Operation in Cyprus, we honor our martyrs and thank our veterans.”

The Director of Communications of the Turkish presidency and close associate of Recep Tayyip Erdogan responsible for a series of rhetorical attacks in Greece wrote in his post “On the 48th anniversary of the operation, we remember with God’s mercy and gratitude our martyrs and veterans who fought heroically to stop the systematic extermination policies that were applied to the ‘T/K’, and ensured the independence of Cyprus”.

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar wrote: “On the 48th anniversary of the peacekeeping operation in Cyprus that stopped the inhuman massacres of Greek Cypriots against Turkish Cypriots. We honor our martyrs and veterans who have passed into eternity with mercy.”
