The Twitter administration has blocked the account of a Russian delegation that participated in negotiations on military security and arms control in Vienna. The information was confirmed by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The blocking of the account was announced on Twitter by the head of the Russian delegation, Konstantin Gavrilov. In his opinion, the reason for such a decision could be “Russia’s alternative position regarding the trends in the current political and military situation in Europe, which was voiced at the OSCE seminar on military doctrines.”
TASS, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry, reported that the ministry had sent a request to Twitter. “We have already sent a request to the company. We hope that this is an exclusively technical problem,” said Maria Zakharova, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The OSCE seminar, which the representative of the Russian Federation spoke about, is held every five years. This year it took place via video link on February 9-10. The organization was handled by the United States, which chairs the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation.
On February 9, RIA Novosti reported that this year, for the first time in 30 years, the Russian Defense Ministry refused to participate in an OSCE seminar. Gavrilov then explained this decision by “the unfriendly policy of the West.”
On February 4, the Commission of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation on Information Policy proposed to provide for the possibility of permanent blocking of social networks for calls to participate in protest actions in the legislation.
